Gold Soundz Filming Locations in Irvine, CA

Gold Soundz (1994)  was shot on location in and around Irvine, CA, most likely on June 12, 1994, the day after Pavement performed at the KROQ Weenie Roast, at the conclusion of their US tour. Shots are identifiable as having occurred more or less in order on the morning of checkout from the Irvine Marriott to early afternoon. It seems likely the band would have flown out of John Wayne Airport the same day.  The band had the rest of June off before undertaking an Australian tour in July.

I grew up in Irvine, and I've long cherished this video as an poignant time capsule of the bland, anonymous town I remember so vividly. Every shot and scene is just saturated with Irvineness, and Pavement is there, cavorting like the dang Monkees.

Opening scene, santa costumes - Palm tree field on Von Karman, across from Irvine Marriott

0:38 - first of several scenes at Irvine Marketplace across from UCI (now called “University Center”) several individual locations can be identified easily - fountain has been replaced - hallway between theatres & restrooms still present (now walled off)

0:57 and again at 1:39 - mystery location, might have been the pond at the Pacific Club at Von Karman and MacArthur, but I really want to place it on the fountains at the Costa Mesa Marriott.  Neither can be definitively confirmed based on current topology.  Von Karman seems more likely due to proximity
