Jicks Picks Mission Statement
Jicks Picks is a personal, non-commercial project made from fan traded/circulated recordings and broadcasts. What I love most about this band is their casual ability to make every show feel fun and unpredictable, not just in their jams, but the weirdo covers, the one-offs, the original songs that pop up out of nowhere only to disappear (and sometimes reappear in different form). After years of collecting & hoarding, this was my attempt to trace that feeling across all the shows and recordings I'd gathered, in the spirit of overly ambitious bootleg sets like "Duck Duck Chimp" or "Unsurpassed
Masters" (or, yeah...Dick's Picks).
Thanks to all who contributed and all the Jicks tapers over the years! The goal was to assemble everything in the lossless domain in best possible quality, but a small number of tracks were transcoded from mp3 and 'restored' as best as I could manage (I'm reaching back to the Napster/Limewire era for some of these tracks, and the trading pool/audience for bittorrent/lossless trading seems to grow smaller every day). While transcoding these tracks to flac cannot improve their quality it allowed me to at least master, set levels and adjust EQ as necessary to maintain a pleasant listening continuity for the overall set. See the info file and tags in each set for detailed notes on sources & lineage. All files are ID3 tagged with show origins and notes. I welcome correspondance and trades from anybody who might be holding on to other great sources and tapes out there!
